The qInch Project : Spring Phone Grip v2
thingiverse
Main Project Page : http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:668017 Version 2 of the phone grip is here, boasting a sleeker design, fewer parts, and relying on two compression springs that reside inside an extended feature. Simply insert the springs and secure them using two bolts. The Home Depot link points to one spring I tested - it fits but exhibits a lot of tension. On the other hand, the Amazon set boasts a compression spring with less tension yet works remarkably well. As such, the strength will depend on how strong the spring is and the length of the bolts used. A side note: When assembling this, I discovered that if I run a bolt through the central component intended for tripod or inch part attachment, it can essentially function as a kickstand - allowing this grip to serve as a phone stand. This adds an innovative use for this new part. Hardware Required: - 1/4-20 bolts of any length, tailored to match the height of your target device (I opt for 3-inch bolts on phones). - Four nuts. - Two 3/8in x 1 1/8in x .041 in compression springs - you may explore other springs that fit within the available space. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-Zinc-Plated-Compression-Springs-6-Pack-16087/202045468 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K7M36W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The Freecad source code is included for download.
