The qInch Project : Rotate / Angle Joint
cults3d
Trying to replicate the magic arm's connecting joint mechanism. Initially, incorporating a ball joint added unnecessary complexity and made it more difficult to operate. I've since modified the design to utilize an elbow-type connection instead. The idea is to set the rotation first, then secure it in place using the screw cap. Finally, you can adjust the angle to your liking by tightening the cap further. This experiment was a valuable learning experience that helped me figure out how to create parts that screw together seamlessly. However, I'm not entirely satisfied with how this joint functions. Moving forward, I plan to develop a variation of the double ball joint that will achieve the same purpose without the added complexity and improved ease of use. FreeCAD source code is included.
