The Progressive Coil Spring
grabcad
I revamped the coil spring design because existing springs on the market exhibit a linear compression rate. This means that as the spring compresses, it maintains a constant level of difficulty throughout its entire travel distance. My goal is to eliminate this linear travel ratio with the progressive spring, which achieves this by being more tightly wound towards the end of its coil. The progressive spring would be crafted from titanium due to its superior strength and lightness compared to traditional steel springs. Although titanium is pricier than steel, it's worth the investment for its enhanced properties. This innovative product will come in a variety of colors, including anodized, gloss, and matte finishes, giving customers plenty of options to choose from. Additionally, I plan to offer custom color choices upon request, allowing customers to have their spring tailored exactly to their preferences. The estimated production cost will fall within the range of $100 to $200.
