The Nymph Salmacis
myminifactory
This statue of Salmacis was masterfully crafted by renowned Neoclassical sculptor Francois-Joseph Bosio. In ancient Greek mythology, Salmacis stood out as an unconventional naiad/nymph, infamous for attempting to assault Hermaphroditus. As recorded in Ovid's epic Metamorphosis, after falling deeply in love with the stunning youth Salmacis fervently prayed to the gods that they would be forever united. Her heartfelt wish was taken far too literally by the gods, who merged Salmacis and Hermaphroditos into a single being, resulting in a hermaphrodite.
