Narvesen's concession to manage public phones in Oslo expired on December 31, 1934. As a result, Telenor, formerly known as Telegrafverket with Oslo Telefonanlegg, took charge of the city's payphones. The company responded by hosting a design competition for these new structures. Georg Fredrik Fasting emerged victorious and was commissioned to bring his vision to life. Just five months prior in November 1933, the first "little red" phone booth had already been installed at Akershuskaia, a bustling waterfront location.
