Jackson Lake's iconic sonic screwdriver from the Doctor Who 2008 Christmas special "The Next Doctor" makes a bold statement with its unmistakable sound. Tapping it against a door frame, you'll hear that unmistakable sonic tone! No serious sonic screwdriver collector can resist adding this masterpiece to their collection! Print Settings: Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer Model: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: A remarkable 0.12mm for the shank and collar, and a precise 0.24mm for the handle Infill: 25% of the material is used to create a strong yet lightweight design Notes: I chose Ultimaker Metallic Silver PLA for the "metal" parts, while the handle was printed with colorFabb woodFill for added texture. To make this model more accessible, I've included hollow versions perfect for those who use 3D printing services that charge by volume. Post-Printing: The handle underwent a meticulous process to replicate its wooden appearance. It was sanded smooth, and then gently distressed to mimic the effects of wear and tear. The camera's flash may have made it look shinier than it actually is! The "metal" parts were meticulously sanded to achieve a high-gloss finish, before being lightly distressed near the tip to create an authentic worn look. To give this sonic screwdriver its distinctive appearance, I primed the entire model except for the surface that would be attached to the handle. Next, I applied several coats of Alclad II Steel using airbrushes, carefully simulating wear and tear along the shank. I then delicately dry-brushed silver paint onto the shank to enhance its worn look. In a final step, I airbrushed the collar with Alclad II Dark Aluminium, aiming for uneven coverage to give it an aged appearance. Using a toothbrush, I carefully applied three distinct shades of brown over the collar to simulate rust. Finally, I sealed both parts together using clear epoxy. Designing this sonic screwdriver was a labor of love. I used Blender to meticulously recreate its design based on screenshots from the episode, ensuring every detail was accurate and authentic.
