A stunning high-resolution image of this celestial wonder is showcased in the GigaGalaxy Zoom project, initiated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) as part of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009). The scene also features an incredibly detailed representation of our planet, with realistic textures that are best appreciated at high resolution. Also visible are the Sun and a comet star, adding to the overall spectacle. The spherical projection texture of the Milky Way was created by darth-biomech.
