The Melynda Mag Stripe Reader
grabcad
This design proposal presents "The Melynda", a handheld Near Field/Mag Stripe Card Reader case. The purpose is to provide an attractive package for the near field antenna, PCB, battery, and read head. The unit includes a reader assembly with mag-stripe slot, charging/connection base, and micro USB cable. The Melynda consists of six plastic parts: a base with two shelled plastic parts, a reader assembly with four plastic parts, and two molded parts encompassing the Mag Read track. The design allows for field replacement of the battery and access to the read head while preventing dust and debris ingress from the mag-stripe slot. Interconnection is proposed to be via a 4 pin surface mount MOBO connector, replacing the micro USB recommendation. Two small circuit boards would connect the handheld to the base, providing standard 4 wire USB for both data and power. The user interface includes five LEDs for Pass/Fail, Bluetooth connection status, battery indicator, and power indication, with a switch on the left side of the unit for power control. The design was made in Solidworks 2014, and drawings, STL files, and any necessary changes can be provided rapidly. If this proposal wins the contest, the designer will put in further labor to get this product to market.
