Paul Day studied art at schools in the UK, attending Colchester and Dartington, before completing his training at Cheltenham in 1991. Today he resides in a village near Dijon, France, where he lives with his French wife Catherine. Their Anglo-French relationship is frequently highlighted in Paul's works as an integral element. The Meeting Place sculpture, modeled after an embrace between Paul and Catherine, symbolizes St Pancras's role as the final destination of the rail link connecting England and France. In 2008, a high-relief frieze was added to the base of the Meeting Place sculpture during refurbishments at St Pancras, featuring images from the history of the Tube and train: people waiting in line on platforms or traveling by carriage; soldiers departing for war and returning injured, and repair works following the London bombings that occurred on July 7th, 2005.
