The Mathemagic Star

The Mathemagic Star

Based on the "Math Mixer," this math toy was designed to print in one piece and have complete functionality. The idea is simple: take it in your hand, roll it over, and start playing. This star has six outer dices and one central dice. In the original game, you're supposed to add the central dice number to the outer black dice number and start by adding, multiplying, subtracting, and dividing each other number to get that result. But we thought that's not the only way to play - in fact, you could come up with your own set of rules. As an example, you could take the central dice as a result and start by adding the outer numbers, but you're forced to multiply by the biggest one at any given point. Try and get the result by using any math operation you know. Print Settings Printer: Wanhao Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.2 - 0.1 Infill: 5% - 15% Notes: The model is designed so that the dices don't stick to the star, which should be no problem. Feel free to ask for any modification if needed. How I Designed This Motivation This print/model was created based on the Math Mixer and we believe it's not only functional but also a cool little way of getting kids or students' attention by showing them that math isn't as scary and tedious as everyone has told them. Instead, it could be fun - like in this game. You can have fun while learning or practicing what you've already learned. Custom Section Project: The Mathemagic Star Objectives: This project's main goal is to give teachers or anyone a tool to transform the way math is taught or practiced - from boring and tedious all confined in a whiteboard book or paper, to a fun and interactive game where everyone can get involved and start learning/practicing math their own way. Audiences: Kids, junior high, high school Steps: This project has the potential to give education a twist by making it a game and enjoyable. You as a student or teacher can come up with almost any set of rules and start playing to see how high you could get your math level. We believe this tool won't probably be used as a grading tool, but it certainly has the potential as a teaching tool. Results: We've already used this print as a game with the kids in the family and they seem to enjoy - not noticing they're actually studying or practicing math. So we hope this helps teachers or anyone who uses this as a tool to show that math is not just fun, but also useful.
