The Man Who Fell to Earth is a 1976 British science fiction film directed by Nicolas Roeg and written by Paul Mayersberg. Based on Walter Tevis's 1963 novel of the same name, the movie tells the story of an extraterrestrial who crash lands on Earth in search of a way to transport water back to his parched planet. The Man Who Fell to Earth has become a cult classic for its bold use of surreal imagery and David Bowie's memorable first starring film role as Thomas Jerome Newton, an alien from another world. This groundbreaking science fiction film is widely regarded as one of the most important works in the genre and a highlight of Roeg's illustrious career.
