The man in chains from the dunes of Baratti
sketchfab
This tomb unearthed near the shores of Baratti, though stripped bare of equipment and dating markers, suggests an origin predating the 4th century BCE, as it had been ravaged by a subsequent grave, facing the opposite direction, which dated back to the 4th century BCE. The individual discovered in the sand near the beach of Baratti was therefore laid to rest during the archaic or late-archaic period, spanning between the 6th and 5th centuries BCE. The skeletal remains belonged to a male adult, estimated to be between 35 and 44 years old, standing at approximately 173 cm in height. Initial findings from anthropological analysis appear to indicate that the man was not a local resident and that severe physical restraints had been imposed upon him shortly before his passing.
