The Ludovisi Gaul killing himself
myminifactory
This sculpture of a Gaul in mortal agony is part of a renowned sculptural group known as The Ludovisi Gaul killing himself and His Wife. It's a Roman marble masterpiece depicting a man in the midst of plunging a sword into his chest. The sculpture is an exquisite copy from the Pergamon School, dating back to the III-II century BC, replicating a Hellenistic original that dates back to around the III century BC. Other Roman marble replicas from this project include the equally famous Dying Gaul and the lesser-known Kneeling Gaul, also featured on Scan the World.
