The Luce Memorial Chapel is a stunning Christian place of worship situated on the beautiful campus of Tunghai University in Taichung, Taiwan. It was skillfully designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei and his team, who were responsible for both the master plan and early development of the university's grounds, likely working alongside respected architects Chi-kuan Chen and Chao-kang Chang. This exceptional chapel is named in honor of the Rev. Henry W. Luce, a pioneering American missionary to China during the late 19th century and proud father of publishing mogul Henry R. Luce. Initial plans for this project were put forth in April 1954, but they did not come to fruition until July 1960. Work on the structure finally began in September 1962 and was completed by November 1963, requiring an impressive total of $125,000.
