A Dúnedain nobleman and nobleman, heir to the throne of Gondor, Aragorn, also known as Trancos, is one of the protagonists of the literary trilogy The Lord of the Rings, by British author J. R. R. R. Tolkien. Heir to the throne of Isildur, Aragorn was orphaned at a very young age and grew up in Rivendell under the protection of Elrond and it was not until he was twenty that he really knew his lineage. Aragorn fell in love there with the daughter of his protector, Arwen, but at first, mostly because of Aragorn's refusal to accept his destiny, they were separated and the human began a long journey through Middle-earth fighting against the darkness where he met Gandalf the wizard, the necessary link between the protagonists of The Lord of the Rings. Aragorn became part of the Fellowship of the Ring after protecting Frodo and the rest of the Hobbits from Bree to Rivendell from Nazgul harassment. At one point, after Frodo and Sam are separated, he decides, along with Legolas and Gimli, to pursue the orcs who have kidnapped Merry and Pippin. After joining forces with the Rohirrim and finding out Saruman's plans along with Sauron, Aragorn, little by little, comes to terms with the role of king that he had tried to deny since his childhood. To do so, he once again wields the sword of Narsil and goes into the Paths of the Dead, where he gains a spectral army that follows his orders to liberate Minas Tirith. After the War of the Ring, where he fought on the Fields of Pelenor and at the Black Gate of Mordor, he was crowned in respect of his lineage and made king of Gondor. He subsequently married Arwen, with whom he had several daughters and only one son and reigned for over a hundred years. In the film adaptation directed by Peter Jackson, the character of Aragorn was played by actor Viggo Mortensen.
