My masterful recreation of Link's sword shines in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening reboot.\n\nThe model was expertly crafted from two detailed reference images. It took shape well before the game's release.\n\nSize:\n\nA careful analysis of the references allowed me to accurately estimate the sword's dimensions. At full size, the entire sword stretches an impressive 54cm long. I deliberately broke the model down into separate pieces to maximize the printbed capacity (thanks to my trusty Prusa MK3S).\n\nWeight:\n\nDespite being lightweight when printed, I ensured a satisfying weight through a thoughtful design choice. The handle is designed to accommodate a plaster fill, effectively replicating the sensation of holding an authentic sword. When fully hardened, the added weight creates a harmonious balance.\n\nAssembly:\n\nEach piece is carefully engineered to fit snugly together. A minimal amount of super glue or epoxy suffices for a strong bond. I incorporated two printed pegs to securely connect the blade sections.\n\nPlease assemble the pieces in the correct order: secure the blade guard around the blade first, followed by gluing it into place within the handle.\n\nFinish:\n\nTo achieve a weathered and rusted appearance, I deliberately sought contrast with the game's cartoon-like sword. As Link discovers his sword on a deserted beach, I applied subtle oxidation effects to reflect this rugged history. The pommel gem required an additional resin replica creation – after meticulously coloring it using red acrylic paint until achieving the perfect hue, I embedded it in a carefully crafted mold. Further enhancements through sanding and power drill polishing polished the surface, making it look authentically weathered.
