The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - Links Sword

My take on Link's sword in the reboot of The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening is showcased here. The sword was meticulously crafted based on two reference images, and I was fortunate enough to complete the model before the game's release. Size: I carefully estimated the size of the sword using the provided reference pictures. When printed at full scale, the entire sword measures approximately 54cm in length. To accommodate this large design within a single printbed, I divided the model into multiple pieces that can be easily assembled. Weight: The printed sword is surprisingly light, but to give it a more realistic weight and feel, I designed the handle with a removable plug. This allows users to fill the handle with plaster for added stability and balance. The pommel serves as a seal, concealing any signs of the fill seam once the plaster has hardened. Assembly: Each component is carefully crafted to fit snugly together. A small amount of super glue or epoxy will suffice in securing the pieces in place. Two pegs have been included in the design files to facilitate connection between the two blade pieces. To assemble the sword, ensure that all components are properly aligned and attached in the correct order. The blade guard must be securely fastened around the blade before gluing it into the handle. Finish: A weathered and rusted appearance was chosen for the finish, providing a striking contrast to the game's cartoonish aesthetic. Since the sword is depicted as washing ashore in the game, I incorporated a rusted look and subtle oxidation effects onto its surface. To complete the piece, I created a resin replica of the pommel gem using a 3D file and a plaster mold. A single drop of red acrylic paint was used to achieve the desired color, and the resin was then carefully poured into the mold. The gem was sanded smooth before being weathered to give it an aged appearance.
