The King's Fountain Column, Linlithgow Palace
sketchfab
Built in the courtyard of Linlithgow Palace between 1536 and 1538, the King's Fountain remains Britain's oldest fountain still standing in its original location. When it was operational, water would have poured down from three basins situated within its octagonal framework. Carved with intricate figures and symbols highlighting James V's stature, this magnificent feature was designed to awe visitors to the Palace. This column originated from the lower section of the fountain. It was relocated in 2000-2005 to safeguard it from damage caused by weathering during a comprehensive restoration project.
