The Killing of Abel

In the biblical Book of Genesis, Adam and Eve have two sons, Cain and Abel, who are humanity's firstborn twins. Cain, the elder brother, works as a farmer, while his younger sibling Abel tends sheep. The brothers offer sacrifices to God, each presenting their own harvest, but God prefers Abel's offering over Cain's. As a result, Cain becomes enraged and brutally murders his brother Abel, prompting God to condemn him to a life of wandering. Cain then settles in the land of Nod, where he establishes a city and sires the line of descendants that begins with Enoch. The narrative does not explicitly reveal Cain's motivation for killing his brother or God's reason for rejecting Cain's sacrifice, nor does it provide information about the identity of Cain's wife. Traditional interpretations often portray Cain as the originator of evil, violence, or greed. According to Genesis, Cain is the first human born and Abel is humanity's first recorded death.
