The Khumbu Glacier
sketchfab
This 3D model depicts the Khumbu Glacier, a glacier stretching approximately 17 km in length. Heavily debris-covered lower sections conceal underlying ice beneath a thick layer of debris. The glacier's ice mass is hundreds of meters thick in certain areas and features an intricate network of englacial conduits that channel meltwater through the glacier. Supraglacial ponds can be observed on its surface, some measuring over 100 m in diameter. While some of these ponds remain stable, others expand and drain over time. The glacier's surface is experiencing lowering due to climatic warming, resulting in a stagnant lower region.
