http://www.army.mod.uk/infantry/regiments/23990.aspx?t=/irishguards/ The life-size figure is depicted wearing modern combat gear and Osprey body armor as used in Afghanistan. A statue was sculpted by former Army officer Mark Jackson, son of former General Sir Mike Jackson. He used bronze brought back from Iraq, where it was salvaged from statues damaged during the conflict. The statue stands on a plinth surrounded by stones from Afghanistan. The 1st Battalion Irish Guards have just returned from a six-month tour in Afghanistan. They suffered three fatalities. A new statue is dedicated to all Irish Guardsmen - Past, Present, and Future. It was unveiled by the Mayor of Windsor, Cllr Asghar Majeed, and Major General Bill Cubitt, Regimental Lieutenant Colonel.
