Soldiers are marching off into the distance with a sense of determination in their eyes. A woman stands proudly on the right, waving goodbye to her loved ones as a little girl clings tightly to her side. This poignant monument was unveiled on May 30, 1986 by architect V. S. Vasilchikov and sculptors father and son duo V. P. and S. V. Astapov. Dedicated to the brave fighters from Leningrad State University - now known as St. Petersburg State University - who risked everything to defend Russia during World War II, this tribute stands as a testament to their unwavering courage. The flag above the soldiers proudly bears the inscription "For the protection of the Soviet family", while the plaque beneath reads: "In the eternal memory of those who fell, 1941-1945".
