Greek mythology tells us that the Trojan War was a brutal conflict between an alliance of Achaean armies and the city of Troy, also known as Ilium and located in Asia Minor. According to Homer, this would have been a punitive expedition by the Achaeans, whose casus belli would have been the abduction (or flight) of Helen of Sparta by Prince Paris of Troy.
