The House Beach

The House Beach

This is a fully functional prototype of an outdoor project that anyone can implement in their own backyard right now. A wave generator uses a wind helix and a scotch yoke to convert circular motion into linear motion, resulting in waves on the surface of water that perfectly simulate a beach scenario. I had this idea several years ago to implement it in my own home someday, and I think this is an excellent opportunity to work on it. It's extremely common for people to have sandboxes for kids to play with, but wouldn't it be great to have your very own beach in the backyard? The really interesting thing about this model is that it represents a genuine natural scenario. We all know that the moon generates water attraction, causing waves and resulting wind currents, so wind and waves are directly related in the ocean - but this time it's an inverse relationship between wind and wave speed. Faster winds result in bigger, more intense waves.
