I present the Hoeken hand! Named after the Hoeken linkage. This is a linkage which converts rotary motion into a curved slow path followed by a quick straight line return stroke. Stick a finger on the linkage and you can wiggle a plate back and forth. Make the finger "open" and "close" by coupling the motion to a 4 bar linkage and you have this nerdy looking mechanism. Essentially the fingers rotate on a path for a period of time, then quickly "open", snap back to their starting position and starts the cycle over. Multiply the mechanism by 5 and stick a plate on top and you have this monstrosity. I was inspired by the work of Mark Setrakian, (I was introduced to his work by his interview on Adam Savages Tested) but wanted to create something that was powered by a single motor. This is currently a work in progress I will note the planned upgrades below(if you have any suggestions for updates let me know!): I am uploading the fusion 360 files in the hopes that people with more artistic talent will both sculpt new fingers and items the fingers can rotate. I am more of a mechanical/mechanism person. If you do create finger "upgrades" or new things to be rotated, please only sell/distribute those updated parts. Working purely on the honor system, just don't be an ass please.
