The HIVE - Custom fit
thingiverse
I had a terrible time with the HIVE drawers. The size of the hex-connectors seemed deliberate, possibly designed to ensure a perfect fit for everyone except those who were over-extruding by a lot. To avoid printing wobbly drawers, I created an openSCAD script to customize the fit. It works seamlessly with the original drawers and provides a much better fit. The openSCAD script requires the V5 STL file to be in the same folder as the .scad file for customization. Download both files and set the "part" to "test". Print one of those small parts deliberately to test the fit after every iteration. The default "hexDiameter" is set to the value that worked best for me. I've also added a V6 module STL file, which had an excellent fit on my printer. For printing settings, refer to the original Thing for more details. I didn't need to scale the drawer down to 99%. However, I found the knobs to be quite short and increased their length to 125% while slicing. Additionally, the original mounting bracket doesn't fit well, so I've included a replacement in the updated version.
