The Hexapods of Mars
thingiverse
On Earth, organisms like fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals share a basic body plan with four limbs, five digits each, a head with two eyes and a mouth. However, if you started with a different body plan and explored permutations to occupy various ecological niches, what would emerge? These creatures are hypothetical, descended from a six-legged "ancestor" skeleton created using 123D Creature. This thought experiment was conceived during brainstorming sessions for teaching evolutionary biology with 123D Creature's skeleton-reuse feature. The critters can be printed as is, requiring support material and flat bottomed feet for build platform adherence. If you have the iPad app, open them from the community under "mars evolution," or use the "ancestor" skeleton to create your variations.
