The Helping M

The Helping M is a portable clamp that assists in holding components while soldering. It was developed after hand-soldering 52 SMT components for an HBP project. This clamp eliminates the need to bend component wires and adjusts to various circuit board sizes, up to 7-8 inches wide. The Helping M features interchangeable heads secured with Velcro for use on capacitors, resistors, and ICs. Its design allows lateral movement to press on different components and slides easily along the board. Additionally, it can be used as a prop to position the board optimally for soldering. To assemble The Helping M, print the provided template and glue the shortest and second-shortest stubs onto circuit board clamps. Attach the bigger stubs to the head. Use bungie cord and a locking mechanism from backpacks as tensioners, secured with sheet metal cut from a soft drink can to bolts on the joint. Assemble everything using M3x12 screws (six bolts and nuts required). The clamp heads have two attachment adapters - one with a hollow square and one with a U-shaped channel, filled with foam for holding different components. Secure these adapters to the head using Velcro. For strength, brush everything with acetone, especially the clamps, and use Locktite on nuts to secure joints while maintaining free movement.
