The Headless Cross - Grimeford Village
sketchfab
Headless Boggart Grimeford Village, Lancashire The Headless Cross stands proudly as a piece of Anglo-Saxon standing cross carved from local sandstone. It's paired with a 17th-century slab that serves as a directional stone, pointing out nearby destinations like Wigan, Bolton, Preston, and Blackburn. A hole and other markings on top suggest this direction stone was used as a sundial at some point. It's believed that the cross marked the medieval route between Fulford and the path crossing Rascahay Brook, which was recorded in a medieval document from the Chartulary of Cockersands Abbey, dated around 1184-1190. The top section of the Headless Cross is currently on display at the Harris Museum in Preston.
