Manolo Valdès, born in Valencia in 1942, handpicked by Biarritz's city officials to craft a towering bronze masterpiece standing at 2.50 meters high and weighing an impressive 700 kilograms. The sculpture was unveiled on June 24, 2003, proudly situated within the Hundred Guards plot, courtesy of Mayor Didier Borotra's initiative. According to Valdès, the figure's head draws inspiration from a renowned Matisse painting, while its name is a nod to Manolo's personal preference without any underlying motivation. Locals and visitors alike fondly touch the sculpture, hoping it will bring them good fortune.
