Prometheus, a mighty Titan god of forethought and clever counsel, was entrusted with the challenging task of crafting humanity out of clay. His endeavors to elevate the quality of life for his creation brought him into direct conflict with Zeus. Initially, he cunningly manipulated the gods into relinquishing their share of the finest portion of the sacrificial feast, securing meat for human consumption. Subsequently, when Zeus withheld fire from mortals, Prometheus boldly stole it from the heavens and discreetly presented it to humanity concealed within a fennel-stalk. As a consequence of these defiant actions, Zeus decreed the creation of Pandora, the first woman, as a means to bestow misfortune upon a mortal's household or deprive mankind of the presence of benevolent spirits. Meanwhile, Prometheus was apprehended and securely fastened to a stake on Mount Kaukasos (Caucasus), where an eagle was set to feed on his continually regenerating liver (or, some claim, heart). Generations later, the illustrious hero Herakles (Heracles) arrived on the scene, freeing Prometheus from his suffering.
