The Hawk
thingiverse
With inspiration from davtr's [Prusa i3 MK2-X build][mk2-x], The Hawk was born. For those unfamiliar with the MK2-X build, it is basically an amalgamation of Josef Prusa's i3 MK2 and the old RepRap RebeliX build. The theory behind combining these two prints is that the stronger frame of the RebeliX printer and the amazing mechanics of the MK2 can be merged to create the ultimate Prusa-style printer. That's our interpretation, anyway. Visit davtr's MK2-X page for more information. Our rendition of the printer includes fewer parts and a few design changes we found made our experience even better. UPDATE 1 7/09/2018: We have now redesigned the Z-BOTTOM-MOUNT_V15 to be moved down by 3mm, eliminating the issue of the PINDA probe hitting the right side mount and extra cooling fans from hitting the bolt heads. Additionally, the Z_Top_Mounts have been redesigned to use less filament, allowing for tightening of the z-axis smooth rod using an m3 bolt. However, the Z_BOTTOM_MOUNT_V15 has not been tested with the new top mounts. The x-axis has also been successfully upgraded using designs from other thingiverse designs. X_END_IDLER_tensioning_idler_V15 is highly recommended for those looking for IsmaelPR1's x-idler/tensioner upgrade, but with Igus bearings. You will need to download his file and split the STL to get the actual tensioner, rod holder, and knob. Also related to the x-axis is JKSniper's design of a Noctua fan upgrade. I wanted this but the X_MOTOR mount gets in the way when using Igus bearings. This link to the Noctua fan attachment upgrade is highly recommended. The necessary upgraded X_END_MOTOR-tilted_Igus_clamps_V15 is included in the files and must be used if Igus bearings are employed. V17 of both the TOP mount and MOTOR mount will be updated to provide sufficient clearance for the PINDA probe and wraparound fan. The top mount will also have a better way of applying force on the linear rod, ensuring it won't move up and down. All that is needed is an m3 hex nut and 8mm bolt for the left and right. The MOTOR mount has been moved down an additional 1.5mm (4mm total) to provide sufficient clearance. The Onshape files are available publicly at this link, allowing you to work with them as you wish. Just update the community with any cool changes!
