The Green Man

The Green Man

myminifactory

The modern sculpture stands as a vivid representation of the Green Man. A plaque placed adjacent to this artwork boldly proclaims: "My roots stretch deep into the earth's core, traversing dry brick and damp soil, veins of lead, and silver deposits. I am entirely composed of fibre." I am as green as a yew tree thriving in the shade of a hedge, with hair fashioned from leaves that cascade down my back. Rooted firmly at the centre of the earth, my body assumes the form of a stalk, which I press firmly into place. The roots below me fashion a skeletal framework on the ground, overlaid with a profusion of dead leaves heaped in the angles. Extracts from The Waves, Virginia Woolf (first published by the Hogarth Press in 1931).
