Scheduled prehistoric carved boulder located on private property within Stobgreen Plantation, just north of Eggleston in County Durham. First discovered by John Grayson in 1954, this stone quickly went back to its hiding place. However, it was later rediscovered by Paul Brown in 2001 and subsequently listed as 'Stobgreen Plantation, The Grayson Stone' on the ERA database managed by NADRAP. In their 2008 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art in the Northern Dales,' Paul and Barbara Brown describe this discovery in detail: A 190x110x50cm cup and ring-marked boulder featuring three cups with single rings and several grooves. Additional information can be found on the ERA website at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=2021. The National Heritage List for England lists this site as scheduled, reference number 1021115. A detailed model of this boulder was created from six stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson in August 2005, part of the NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England.
