The Giant Ghibli Clock from Tokyo

The massive Tokyo Clock, NI-Tele Truly Enormous Timepiece. Captured using photogrammetry technology. This colossal timekeeper stands in the Shiodome district of Tokyo, atop the Nittele Tower (Nippon Television headquarters). Conceived by Hayao Miyazaki, a celebrated film director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, its design bears some resemblance to the aesthetic of his 2004 animated masterpiece Howl's Moving Castle. This gargantuan clock weighs over 20 tons, constructed from copper and steel, reaching three stories high and spanning 60 feet in width. In addition to announcing the time, it features more than 30 intricately crafted mechanical scenes, triggered at specific hours, such as cannons firing, a pair of blacksmiths hammering away, a spinning wheel, a teapot boiling over, and two bell-headed piston pumps. These vignettes unfold with precision and elegance, evoking both the intricacy of cuckoo clocks and the nostalgic charm of 19th-century tin toys.
