The Game of Saccomazzone

This bronze statue depicts two blindfolded youths, one crouching low behind the other figure who raises a sling.\r\nIn 17th century Italian courtly life, the Gioco del Saccomazzone was a game played during interludes of rustic dances. Two men, blindfolded, attempted to hit each other with a knotted cloth without lifting their left hands from an object in the middle of the room, while also shrieking bird cries. Orazio Mochi originally conceived this comical composition around 1620, and the small witty bronze was later enlarged to life-size pietra serena group for the Boboli Gardens by sculptor Romolo Ferrucci del Tadda.\r\nSusini's statue is based on Mochi's design. He chose a narrow oval plinth for his bronze cast, showcasing the players' wild thrashing in the air to better advantage.\r\nThis object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory.
