The Gaddi Torso with Base
thingiverse
The Gaddi Torso is a rare example of ancient Greek marble sculpture. It is believed to be a fragment of a larger artwork depicting a captured centaur struggling against his bonds. The movement and realism of the piece was an inspiration to later artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. The original torso 3d model was scanned by the remarkable Scan the World project. I have edited the model to allow the insertion of the rod so that it could be mounted on a base. I have included bases both with and without text. Printing this piece is a bit challenging. I opted to print it with the neck side down, as that resulted in the least amount of supports. However, then the support marks were on the top of the piece, making clean-up more difficult.
