The Forbidden City, spanning 72 hectares or approximately 180 acres, boasts 9,999 rooms enclosed by a 10-meter high city wall measuring 960 meters long from south to north and 750 meters wide from east to west. Established on the site of the palace, the Palace Museum was designated as one of China's foremost protected monuments in 1961 and became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. Dating back 600 years, this historical landmark served as the rule of 24 emperors from the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty before being opened to common people. Constructed between 1406 and 1420, its structures predominantly feature wooden designs with white stone foundations and yellow glazed tiles, while a 52-meter wide moat surrounds the city wall. The Forbidden City truly represents a city within a city.
