The Flapper
thingiverse
I've begun shaping basic mesh models that can be used as a framework for future designs. This should allow my work to look distinct rather than identical, saving time in the process. For this installment, I'll focus on creating human faces since they generally adhere to standard proportions unless greatly distorted or altered. To practice sculpting individual components, I started with a female bust consisting of a head, neck, and partial shoulders – this is a vital piece for an upcoming model that will involve numerous parts. My choice for this model revolves around the Flapper era, as exemplified in the following poem: The New Fashioned Girl Let them speak of girls from bygone days, When they blushed if elbows or stockings displayed, But I'll celebrate maidens whose ankles are unencumbered, To show their half-socks and knees so freed, Let praise be given to past ladies who demurely inclined Their toes and fainted at proposals made; Compared to the bobbed-haired girls of our time Who meet proposals with direct gaze; Let them mourn in copious, crocodile tears For sisters from bygone eras simple and sincere But I cast my vote for girls self-assured, bright, sassy, and genuine – this is what I hold dear. You can find a full description of this project on my blog: http://www.southquay3d.com/index.php?route=news/article&news_id=17 When fully assembled, this model stands at 14cm tall. It prints without supports and was sculpted using Blender software. Printing Instructions: Print with .2 layer height. Additionally to the printed parts, you'll need a strong adhesive capable of bonding your chosen material. For assembly, attach the jewel to the headband first (there is a small placeholder square) before joining the headband to the main head pieces. Each part – the headband, face, and top of the head – features arrows indicating their correct orientation for positioning.
