One of Jouffroy's most celebrated works, this stunning marble composition was purchased in 1840 by the Ministère de la Maison du roi for the esteemed Musée du Luxembourg. A remarkable plaster version is proudly displayed at the Musée de Toulon, while Jouffroy generously gifted a reduced plaster replica to the Musée de Dijon. The Musée Croatzier in Le Puy-en-Velay boasts an impressive plaster cast of this masterpiece. This majestic marble version was showcased at the prestigious Paris Salon in 1839 and later wowed audiences at the 1855 Éxposition Universelle. Meanwhile, a smaller yet equally captivating plaster statuette is showcased by the Musée de Grenoble, which acquired it in 1874.
