The Faun

The Faun

myminifactory

A legendary creature of ancient myth was the faun, a half-human, half-goat figure that served as a shepherd. In frenzied abandon, the fauns enthusiastically followed the wine deity Bacchus. At first glance, Sergel's sculpture appears to be a straightforward representation of human form, but upon closer inspection, a small goat tail can be seen at the base of the spine. This Faun statue marked a turning point in Sergel's career and was crafted during his time in Rome. It was created in duplicate versions, with this particular piece becoming part of Gustav III's collection. However, it is essential to note that these presented scans are not exact duplicates due to inaccessible areas and other factors that may cause deviations from the original.
