This two-piece gadget can be worn on either eye--the two components are identical and not specific to left or right eyes. From above they resemble a capital "I," while from the side they form a squared-off "C." The Eye Opening Device keeps users awake by preventing them from closing their eyes; it achieves this through tension created by forcing the upper eyelid open and pulling down on the lower eyelid. Although it doesn't suppress the urge to blink, it makes blinking and fully closing the eyes impossible. As a result, users can stay alert. Furthermore, the drying out of the eyes due to a lack of blinking and exposure to air causes discomfort, making sleep difficult. The Eye Opening Device keeps users awake during periods when this is necessary, such as late studio sessions and early morning lectures.
