Hell Cube #5 The Enigma Puzzle:\r\nThe Enigma Puzzle has been cracked only once. It's assumed that the intercepter possesses an Enigma machine. The protection against decryption then hinges on the number of setting combinations that must be tried to decipher the cube.\r\nThe basic 3-rotor Enigma yields 6x6x6 = 216 possible rotor states for each of 6 wheel orders, resulting in 6x216 = 1,296 Cube configurations. For each configuration within the cube (with ten pairs of connection combinations), there are 78,364,164,096 possible settings.\r\nThe task confronting anyone attempting to decipher a particular Configuration is to identify which one of these 78 billion settings has been used previously.\r\nThe Germans deemed this task impossible, and even a modern computer might require a year to process this number of Configuration settings if it were to try them out in sequence.\r\n\r\nHave fun!\r\n
