The Eight-Thousanders
thingiverse
This is a collection of the 14 tallest mountains in the world, known as the Eight-Thousanders, because they reach dizzying heights of over 8000 meters above sea level. The detailed models are carefully scaled so that the bottom surface represents the ocean's surface and 1mm equals exactly 100m of altitude. Alternatively, if you're looking to save plastic while printing, I've also provided a second set of "short" models where the pedestals have been dramatically reduced to emphasize the rugged topography of each mountain. In either case, each model has the name of the mountain meticulously engraved on its bottom surface. For my comprehensive tutorial on crafting terrain models, consult the PDF document included in this collection. I extend my gratitude to all those who generously provide free software and data that make projects like this a reality! How It Was Designed I personally created these detailed models using QGIS and HGT2STL, then refined them with some expert finishing touches in Blender.
