Wreck of The Eagle. Northport, Michigan. Scaled model replicates the shallow water wreck of the fishing vessel The Eagle, owned by Ed Middleton, a renowned commercial fisherman in Northport, Michigan. After being salvaged for parts, it was intentionally scuttled in the waters of Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan. The town of Northport, heavily reliant on commercial fishing, once boasted an extensive system of docks and numerous boats. However, as commercial fishing lost favor as a viable income source, many locally built fishing vessels like The Eagle were deliberately sunk or disassembled for recycling. Valuable parts from The Eagle were recovered by Ed Middleton's family and now proudly displayed in front of the historic fish processing shed turned guest house on Fredrick Steffens II's property, his great-grandson.
