The Muses revel on Helicon, a marble relief crafted after 1844 by Georg Christian Freund under the guidance of H.W. Bissen, based on Throvaldsen's original design from 1816. Like the three Graces, the nine Muses are also children of Jupiter, residing on Mount Helicon in Greece near Hippocrene's sacred spring, where they embody artistic inspiration. A festive scene unfolds as the sun-god passes by Mount Helicon, captured in the relief. In the center, a small mound showcases the three naked Graces, an adaptation of another relief created by Thorvaldsen as early as 1804.
