The Concorde is a British-French passenger airliner that soared through the skies until its retirement in 2003. At cruising altitude, this turbojet-powered jet hit speeds over twice the speed of sound at an incredible Mach 2.04 - translating to a blistering 1,354 miles per hour or 2,180 kilometers per hour. This marvel of engineering could transport up to 128 passengers across vast distances, making it a staple in commercial aviation for nearly three decades. First taking to the skies back in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued to fly until its eventual retirement. The Tupolev Tu-144, another supersonic transport built by the Soviets, is the only other aircraft that has ever been used commercially for this purpose.
