Juan Bravo (c. 1483 - April 24, 1521) led the Comuneros in Castile's Communal Uprising. His father, Gonzalo Ortega Bravo de Laguna, and mother, María de Mendoza of Monteagudo, raised him in Atienza. In 1504, Juan married Catalina del Río, and they settled in Segovia with their daughter, María de Mendoza. He wed María Coronel, great-granddaughter of Abraham Seneor, a converso Jew converted to Christianity, in 1510. Andrea Bravo de Mendoza and Juan Bravo de Mendoza were his two sons. Juan participated in the Castilian War of Communities, commanding the rebel forces defeated at Villalar's Battle. Captured after defeat, he lost his head the next day. Today, a monument honors him in Segovia.
