The Circular-Centerpiece 3x3

As a competitive speedcuber, I designed a cube with circular centers to eliminate spring noise and improve piece stability. My design features non-rotating centerpieces that allow face turns while preventing the centerpiece from turning with the face. This innovative concept could potentially result in an improved puzzle with further refinement. The CAD process revolved around the "profile" of the cube, which is a shape used in revolve features to create every part of the puzzle. After 3D printing the first version on my Monoprice Maker Select V2.1, I discovered some flaws that have been addressed in the V2 design. Professionally printed using advanced techniques like Polyjet could offer benefits such as detailed prints, dissolvable supports, and stickerless puzzle options. This project highlights the importance of 3D printing for rapid prototyping in cubing hardware development.
