The Chip Flip Clip: Print-flat-and-fold bag clip
prusaprinters

Keep your snacks fresh! A simple, one-piece bag clip that prints flat and uses the initial layer as a living hinge to fold up. The centre oriented clasp locks the clip in-place with a satisfying click. Flip it up to release. The clasp is intentionally short creating a leaf-spring-like tension on the model that really grabs the bag.

This is a quick print with just a few dozen layers and uses only about 7 grams of filament.

Filament

Print it in your favourite PLA. Pictured is CC3D Copper PLA, IIID Max Light Blue PLA, and Filament Factory Food Safe PLA Black.

Special printing instructions

There are two different models included one for 0.2 mm layer height and another for 0.3 mm layer height. Make sure you set your slicer's layer height to match the model you're using.

I printed these using a 0.4 mm nozzle with a 0.6 mm line width and flow of 105%. In short, extra flow and wide lines makes a better, more durable living hinge. The 0.3 mm model prints a little faster but some extruder / nozzle / filament combinations may have trouble keeping up with the higher flow. This model relies on tensile strength of the first layer, so if you are using a decorative, lower strength filament, the 0.3 mm layer height will likely be more durable.

As designed, only the initial layer will form the living hinge. The initial layer's lines must be perpendicular to the fold (i.e. they will run parallel to the longest dimension). You can achieve this a few ways.

In Cura, set the “Top/Bottom Line Directions” to
[ 90, -45, 45, 180 ]

If you can't find that setting or use a different slicer, you can rotate the model in your slicer to make sure those lines are running in the correct direction.

It will end up looking something like this:
